As a young businessman, Peter thought persuasion meant winning and being right.  In this episode, Peter shares the lessons he has learned that enable him to persuade risk-averse institutional investors and an entirely new industry on the power of AND.
Peter Leighton is an experienced renewable energy executive with over 20 years of experience in project development and mergers and acquisitions in the energy sector. He is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of RE Royalties, an innovative finance company specializing in renewable energy. With climate change a pressing issue globally, RE Royalties has become an important source of capital for renewable energy projects. In 2016, RE Royalties officially launched as the first company to take the royalty-financing model, well-proven in other industries, and apply it to the renewable energy sector. RE Royalties is a publicly traded company on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol “RE”.
Peter is the former President and Chief Operating Officer of Finavera, where he delivered $750 million worth of wind energy projects from the embryonic stages of development through to the ready-to-build stage. He also worked as the Chief Operating Officer of Accenture’s Business Services for Utilities, the Director of Clean Energy B.C. from 2010 to 2016, and Health Shared Services B.C. from 2009 to 2018. In 2020 Peter was named as an Honouree to Canada’s Clean50 for 2020. Peter holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) in Geography/ Geology from Queen’s University and a Master, Business Administration (MBA) from the University of British Columbia.

James Baty is a partner at Sauter, Baty & Bloomquist, Inc. in Mount Vernon, Iowa and is the Executive Director for the Concrete Foundations Association. Combined with his degree (BARCH ’92) in Architecture from Iowa State University, James has added a career long emphasis on thermal design efficiency and concrete construction. From 1991-2001 he served Thermomass as Technical Services Manager where he was responsible for the integration of thermal efficiency with commercial construction through engineering, design consultation and construction supervision. Since 2001, he has served the global concrete industry as a manager and director within both the cast-in-place and tilt-up concrete construction industries.  His focus is providing guidance to both members and general industry for design, construction and performance aspects of buildings as well as company operation and workforce development.  He also serves as a primary educator to the concrete industry and a certification examiner for the ACI/CFA Residential Foundation Technician and ACI/TCA Certified Tilt-Up Supervisor programs.

A single mom with two small children to feed starts a cottage industry and builds a multi-million dollar business.  Jan Cavelle shares her stories and the lessons she's learned along the way.
Jan is an entrepreneur from the UK who has a few decades of running micro and small businesses behind her.  She is very familiar with all the challenges that go with that, having started one from the kitchen table when her children were small and she was a single mother, to go on to build that into a multi-million turnover business.
Jan has put her entrepreneurial experiences together with her passion for writing together a book aimed at helping entrepreneurs to grow their businesses during the big leap of 1-10m.  The book from Bloomsbury is called Scale for Success and it now out in the UK and available to pre-order in the US as it will be out on 6th July, or you can get the kindle version now.
